Welcome

Welcome to Grade 5/CC!

We are one of 3 grade 5/6 classes at Wangaratta West Primary School. We have 25 students in our class we have 2 teachers. Mr C teaches in the grade on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He also works with different students on Mondays and helps in our class EQ sessions on Tuesdays and in his spare time helps out Mrs Sibley as our Assistant Principal. Mrs Carmody works in the grade on Monday, and Tuesday. This is a great set up with two teachers working together to enhance learning and bounce ideas around creating a dynamic classroom.

Have a look at our Blog, check out what we are up to and make some comments. We love hearing what you think, and getting feedback!

Enjoy..

Fitness Session

This a great example of our grade 5/6 fitness sessions. It shows the strength and determination in our students. At the beginning of the sessions the students were a bit timid and worried. However as their confidence grew so did their strength! I really really really enjoyed watching this session to see the change and passion for fitness and doing their best these studetns demonstrated. Awesome effort guys!
This is a great example

Hello 5/6KC members, friends and followers..
It is so exciting to see that we are slowly gaining followers on our blog! It is fantastic to see you guys taking an interest in what we are doing in our classroom and at Wang West Primary. I am not sure about the Athletics Sports on monday. At the moment there is a lot of rain making the ground very very wet! Lucky we have a back up day later in the week... Keep updated though on Oak FM or 3NE on monday morning between 7 and 8am to see what will happen.
Please remember that we have our Cyber Safety night on monday the 13th at 7pm in the school hall. The more parents and students that we get there the better. It is really important  that we support these nights. So please please please make a massive effort to get there! Remember there will be prizes and give aways!
Excellently awesome work guys... have a lovely weekend, stay dry!

Barr Reserve Fitness Sessions

During term 3, 2010 grade 5/6 students at Wang West are participating in a Fully Fit Fully Sic fitness program. This is where students participate in 3 half hour fitness sessions per week and one gymnastics session. They are also learning about healthy bodies and lifestyles. Our Barr Reserve Fitness sessions have been a wonderful eye opener for students, seeing that fitness and exercise is not just about playing and training for an organised sport or going for a run or a walk. There are so many other ways to get fit. In this session students thought they were going to have a tug of war... eagerly every one ran to get their position on the rope. Next Brandon our instructor asked everyone to lift the rope above their head and start running to the other end of the oval. The students were asked to do lots of different tasks with the rope and at no stage was the rope alowed to touch the ground. The look on the kids faces was priceless and the enthusiasm was inspiring! Lots of fun getting fit, indeed!

Writing in 5/6 KC

This was a game that we played to assist with our writing skills. We are looking at Procedure text, so this game was designed so students could understand what made good instructions. The game was called Blind Build, where the person with the blind fold had to construct a building made from Lego that looked exactly like their partners building without seeing it. Their partner had to give them the instructions. It was great fun, as students got more and more cleaver with their instructions they made the builds harder and challenged themselves. When each person had had at least one turn we then gathered all of our ideas to come up with a list of good ways to give instructions. I was really pleased with the ideas that 5/6kc students came up with and the way they interacted with each other during this lesson! Awesome work guys!
